Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Leading the Manufacturing Engineering Department in operating with a high level of efficiency, integrity and enthusiasm, striving to achieve excellence (and avoid mediocrity) in all endeavors. Be a creative and proactive contributor on the management team, focused on continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This role must be viewed as operationally focused working closely with the Manufacturing Engineering, Test Engineering and Quality Engineering leads in tandem with the Manufacturing Shift Lead to drive optimization and improvement on manufacturing and test processes and execution to plan.
  • The Manufacturing Engineering Lead shall lead and manage the Manufacturing Engineers and Test Engineers coordinating day to day activities and priorities in support of the manufacturing plan.
  • Display expert knowledge of the internal and external engineering environment.
  • Share information on the external environment with the ME function.
  • Drive efficiencies in current technical systems.
  • Manage the development of new technical systems.
  • Support the Engineering Manager in the evaluation and equipment needs for today and future needs.
  • Support the engineering manager with labour forecasting and skills needs in line with new business requirements.
  • Undertake technology benchmarking and drive” best in class” engineering solutions.
  • Lead and Manage the Manufacturing and Test Engineering Function.

Individual Performance Management:

  • Agree clear performance metrics.
  • Review performance metrics and progress continuously.
  • Effectively prepare for and perform informal 1 to 1’s and annual appraisals.
  • Identify training / development needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Agree individual development plans.
  • Provide 1 to 1 coaching to facilitate individual excellence.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Team Performance Management:

  • Work with Manufacturing engineering manager on all necessary trainings for the team
  • Drive a mindset of innovation and continuous improvement throughout the Manufacturing and Test Engineering function.
  • Create and manage a succession plan for the Manufacturing and Test Engineering function.
  • Drive motivation levels within the Manufacturing and Test Engineering function.
  • Drive consistency of approach and performance.
  • Ensure that an effective forum for the exchange of ideas and information exists within the Manufacturing and Test Engineering function.
  • Review the absence profile and employee turnover within the Manufacturing and Test Engineering function.
  • Facilitate/ Coach the Manufacturing and Test Engineers and Machine Technicians with regards to their roles & responsibilities within the team.
  • Build and Maintains effective Customer Relationships.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

External Customers:

  • Support Business Development through assessing the needs of potential customers in conjunction with the Engineering Manager and Engineering Leads.
  • Provide effective tools and evaluation strategies to support Jabil  quoting activity.
  • Provide expert problem solving and customer focused support to individual businesses.
  • Drive the Manufacturing Engineering function to provide existing customers with improved business solutions.
  • Work with customer on any quality concerns.
  • Effectively drive CAPA process from 8D methodology.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Internal Customer:

  • Proactively identify internal customer needs.
  • Drive “internal customer focus” mindset within Engineering teams.
  • Effectively cascade functional / business information and expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in areas of cost, quality and delivery.
  • Analyze and prioritize areas for Manufacturing and Test Engineering improvement e.g. ergonomics, process optimization, quality improvement, machine uptime, efficiency improvements.
  • Create a continuous improvement culture throughout the Manufacturing Engineering team with proactive presence online focusing on key improvement areas.
  • Create vehicle to support multi-disciplined teams at all organizational levels to drive proactive involvement in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work with engineering disciplines and manufacturing to establish service level agreements.
  • Drive as key focus both the site and global objectives through Focus, commit deliver and Lean deployment.
  • Lead JOS meetings, in particular TIC and QIC.
  • Drive proper closure of all JOS actions with the team.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Typically reports to Management.  Direct supervisor job title(s) typically include: Engineering Manager
  • Job is directly responsible for managing other employees (e.g., hiring/termination and performance management).   

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer including using a Windows based operating system and related software.
  • Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of Jabil’s software packages.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.  Read and understand visual aid.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. 
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • HND / Diploma / Degree in engineering or related field.
  • Proven track record in Engineering.
  • Plus 2 / 3 years managerial experience.
  • Computer literate with a good grasp of technical reporting / desk top applications.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
