Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Establish and promote the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, healthy work environment that is compliant with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Develop and maintain safety policies, procedures and employee communications regarding safety guidelines. Train employees in safe workplace practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements general safety policies and procedures to be followed by company personnel in compliance with local, state, regional, and national safety and health rules and regulations.

  • Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, job tasks, fire prevention and safety programs.

  • Formulates appropriate safety policies and guidelines per corporate requirements.

  • Inspects or tours facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards.

  • May participate in internal and external environmental, healthy, and safety audits

  • Keeps employees alerted as to the safety hazards and any significant incidents.

  • Develops and implements training programs and communications to increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.

  • Participates in accident/injury investigations and creates corrective action plans based on findings.

  • Drives corrective or preventative measures where indicated and ensures all actions are followed to closure.

  • Develop and implement ergonomic solutions and other injury prevention best practices.

  • Maintains safety files and records.

  • May report to management on health and safety issues and concerns.

  • May be required to submit health and safety reports to local, state, regional and national regulatory agencies (air permitting, storm water, hazardous waste)

  • Supports all company safety and quality programs and initiatives.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, tact, diplomacy, independence

  • General knowledge of ergonomics and injury prevention.

  • Exceptional priority and time management skills - well organized, ability to effectively prioritize/plan and manage multiple events simultaneously

  • Hands-on, organized self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member in establishing priorities, and achieving goals and objectives

  • Good computer skills, including all MS Office software, esp. spreadsheet applications and word processing

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Environmental Health & Safety strongly preferred

  • At least 5 (five) years of hands on experience with at least 2(two) years experience within a fast-paced, high volume manufacturing environment.
