Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Pulp / Wet Process Engineer is responsible for paper pulp process optimization, waste reduction and efficiency improvements specifically with regards to the plant’s pulp preparation operations. This role is also responsible for helping to drive the continual effort to improve quality and safety processes and reduce the cost of manufacturing. The Wet Process Engineer has a direct line of accountability to the Plant Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate all aspects of trials related to process optimization / improvement to include; defining associated costs/savings; process changes required; performing risk/benefit analysis; documenting and communicating results, conclusions and recommendations to the business

  • Lead process troubleshooting efforts which include chemical and physical analysis, data collection and analysis, fault analysis, and recommendation of corrective action

  • Evaluate and eliminate the major sources of controllable waste and machine downtime

  • Create procedures or action plans to reduce these waste sources

  • Implement potential new fiber mixes

  • Collect, trend and present data to determine and correct problems

  • Implement specification and procedural changes to improve quality and minimize production raw material costs

  • Update production recipes to minimize costs while maintaining all quality parameters

  • Review alternative raw material types and sources to improve process / cost efficiency

JOB QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Process Engineering or equivalent experience required.

  • Prefer 3 years of experience in hardboard/paper manufacturing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have a high level of understanding of papermaking test methods and data interpretation.

  • 3-5 years of experience in continuous industrial manufacturing.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required.

  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must have a high level of understanding of papermaking test methods and data interpretation.

  • Must be proficient with analysis of large amounts of data.
