Job Description


This role focuses on leadership and supervision of a skilled engineering team focused on Additive Manufacturing (AM) of Titanium orthopedic implants. The candidate must organize and manage a team that will execute testing, validation, parameter, documentation, calibration, facilities, equipment and process development tasks. These tasks will be part of larger efforts to scale customer programs from validation to full rate production. The assistant manager will be responsible for team deliverable and schedule performance for multiple programs and will report to site level engineering management.


  • Responsible for metal additive manufacturing engineering team performance
  • Review and confirm the accuracy and clarity of engineering documentation and other deliverables
  • Develop the skills and capability of the metal AM engineering team
  • Manage schedules, resources and deliverable planning
  • Improve and promote good documentation practice in the engineering team
  • Develop manufacturing systems that meet customer requirements on select programs
  • Scale customer developed manufacturing systems on select programs
  • Support operations with process improvements
  • Create processes, systems and methods to improve overall process yield
  • Coordinate with other site functions including Operations, Quality, Lab, Facilities and the Business Unit
  • Support the Business Unit for new program quotations


  • >5 years hands on experience with metal additive manufacturing
  • >3 years of engineering team management or leadership
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and test methods
  • Knowledge of metal AM process parameters
  • Knowledge of CAD and 3D data management software
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex engineering concepts in both verbal and written form
  • Bachelor’s or higher in related engineering discipline
  • Peer reviewed publications, dissertation or other material with an AM subject
  • Experience writing manufacturing documents; work instructions, test protocols, data reports
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team through metal AM projects within a regulated industry
  • Knowledge of ISO13485 or AS9100 quality systems
