JOB SUMMARY:

At NP Medical, our innovation comes from the creativity and efforts of our team which is backed by a trusted network of clinicians, inventors, partner companies and suppliers. The Product Development Engineer II position is responsible for contributing to medical device product development within the field of Vascular Access Site Management. Primary responsibilities of the role include working with other R&D team members to define product specifications and design inputs, contribute to product design and verification testing, and support design validation studies for new device platforms. Other activities include evaluating design robustness and alternatives through feasibility studies and addressing post-release product engineering needs. The individual must comprehend medical device design control requirements, maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development, and be able to work effectively in a cross functional team.
 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assists team members to attain acceptable design of new or modified products

- Works with vendors involved in product development and ongoing production

- Collaborates with Marketing to define and specify new product user requirements and design inputs for medical devices

- Designs various aspects of medical devices with a focus on design for manufacturability (particularly for injection molding and high-volume automation), ergonomics as well as COGS

- Conducts product testing, DOEs and collects the necessary data to make informed engineering decisions

- Supports product verification and validation testing, authors testing protocols and testing reports to ensure products meet specification and customer needs

- Investigates and solves critical production product/process problems on demand

- Performs design analysis, e.g. tolerance stack-ups, strength of materials, FEA, risk analysis, etc. required for new and existing products

- Develops new concepts to a point that enables submission of invention disclosures and patent applications


JOB QUALIFICATIONS- KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred

- Minimum of 2 years of related experience required

- Must have working knowledge of FDA requirements, including 21CFR820, ISO14971, CGMP and other standards as they relate to the design and manufacture of medical devices

-- Strong problem solving skills

- Proficient in 3D CAD/CAM software

- Experience with the creation and critical review of engineering drawings and specification documentation including having an understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

--Knowledge of statistical analysis package (Minitab) preferred
