As an Operational SME – AI, you understand a realistic landscape of technical AI capabilities within manufacturing and are an expert in Jabil business problems that can be solved by AI in your functional business area. You have an operational understanding of AI solution development, along with a realistic view of its capabilities and limitations. You are an expert in the business processes for your functional area and where AI can efficiently and effectively improve them. You remain customer-centric in the face of AI, with a goal of solving a current Jabil/customer’s problem. You understand and can communicate the challenges that come with adopting AI in manufacturing, such as difficulty in predicting ROI. As a Jabil AI champion, you will educate leadership, SMEs, and other stakeholders on the potential of AI in your functional business area.

You will work with cross-functional teams, that include ML engineers and data engineers, in addition to traditional product teams and stakeholders. You are an expert in the fundamentals of production grade AI, including ModelOps, MLOps, and DataOps for edge, MLaaS, and hybrid infrastructures.  At a conceptual level, you understand AI governance, life cycle management, and retuning/ retraining/ rebuilding of AI models to provide uninterrupted flow between the development, operationalization and maintenance of models within AI-based systems. You are familiar with AI bias, privacy breaches, adversarial attacks, and dataset shift and how to monitor and mitigate these situations. You are an expert in bringing standardization and scalability across disparate environments with AI pipelines that span from developer notebooks to edge to data center to cloud deployments.

To be successful, you must be an excellent communicator in all forms, including in-person, virtual meetings and email. You understand that in many situations you serve as an AI-translator bridging the language of production grade AI with the language of product deployment and manufacturing operations.

Operational SME – AI will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and managing; integrated, production and service delivery systems that assure performance, reliability, maintainability, schedule adherence and cost control within the production region(s). The Operational SME III will adopt as its goal’s profitability, effectiveness, adaptability, responsiveness, quality, and the continuous improvement of products and services throughout their life cycles.


  • Serve as the functional AI expert for function area assigned

  • Support other Engineers when questions arise and help resolve them

  • Coordinate and facilitate training for the plant in terms of new hires, new functionality, and upgrades

  • Track and communicate all changes/enhancements to existing AI solution, including upgrades to AI Solution

  • Provide support to the users

  • Maintain and develop documentation for responsible area

  • Participate in the exchange of ideas and information within the department

  • Offer new ideas and suggestions for improvement

  • Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy

  • Ensure AI training and deployment processes run consistently in a platform-agnostic manner

  • Management of model development environments, model repository, champion-challenger testing, model rollout/rollback, and CI/CD integration

  • Assess the quality (interpret the outcomes and validate KPIs) of AI models in production and promote or demote AI models for inferencing

  • Bring standardization and scalability across disparate environments for consistent AI development, training and deployment process

  • Propose governance and life cycle management of AI and decision models, including machine learning, knowledge graphs, rules, optimization, linguistic and agent-based models

  • Propose AI model pipelines that include a multiplicity of different types of models including algorithmic and rule-based

  • Assess performance and viability of model retraining methods and techniques for Realtime and batch data infrastructure

  • Propose facilities for A/B and champion/challenger testing on models in production

  • Propose tools for defining and performing compliance tests and generating reports used for internal and external audits (explainability, bias, etc.)

  • Assess interfaces to business intelligence (BI) and other analytic/operational systems to connect model performance to business KPIs and enable line of business managers to manage their investments in AI and their impacts on their businesses

  • Propose/ assess mechanisms for encapsulating models for deployment in different types of infrastructure (on prem, private cloud, public cloud(s), hybrid).

  • Propose mechanisms for creating model pipelines that interconnect a series of models and data sources

  • Propose mechanisms for instrumenting and monitoring each model's technical and business performance in production

  • Propose/ assess alerting and reporting methods to identify and address technical/ business performance issues; operational bottlenecks; and connections to enterprise operational stack

  • As a regional subject matter expert, the SME III is responsible for monitoring on a regular basis performance related to DF metrics from different sites across the region:

  • Identify early signs of low performance from the sites within the region and initiate recovery activities to prevent any customer complaints. Other engineering areas will be responsible for working on the root cause of the low performance issues

  • SME III will have the authority to initiate regional audits to confirm that basic DF systems, tools, and procedures are properly used by local engineering teams

  • Assist and support regional meetings with other subject matter experts from different areas and possible different regions to align and establish regional priorities

  • Regional Project Leader and Coordinator that directs and critically evaluates large scale challenges in complex manufacturing processes, unique customer challenges (production/data) and operational data to determine efficient utilization and effectiveness of applications and resources.

  • SME III is required to attend manufacturing and technology seminars regularly to maintain his or her expertise on the field

  • Lead multiple cross-functional projects across his or her specific region with broad in-depth knowledge of various functions outside of Digital Factory to optimize complex large-scale projects

  • Lead as Regional Subject Matter Expert in all global & regional Digital Factory systems and applications (JEMSmm, JEMSpd, Valor, MES etc)

  • Lead as Regional Subject Matter Expert in all Operational DF practices

  • Support development of global DF systems and applications with consideration of Global standards

  • Communicate to regional team key DF metrics for Site

  • Support, assist, and advise Business Unit Directors and Site Management on new & actual processes reliability, and profitability

  • Participate in QBR, customer visits and site audits if requested by BUD and Regional Management.

  • Lead process improvement related activities for New Product Introduction.

  • Coach, mentor, and train engineers within the Operational SME DF team & other functional teams as needed

  • Coach, mentor, and train new Site Operational SME’s as support to Regional and Global Operational SME’s

  • Support and/or maintain all lower-level Operational SME’s essential duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure the standardization of Jabil processes throughout the site in accordance with the global, regional and site direction

  • Develop regional DF best practices with supporting data to Regional and Global DF teams to optimize existing best practices

  • Seek outside best practices and education to bring knowledge into regional and global DF platforms

  • Support the Lean organization by developing a solid process foundation and data integrity in order to support process improvement through the organization

  • Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned



  • Key Requirements:

    • Understanding and application of broad range of Digital Factory Applications (i.e. JEMSmm,  JEMSpd, JEMScc, Valor, MES, iFactory)

    • Understanding of Jabil’s global strategies and direction

    • Understanding of site’s facilities, capabilities and how they tie back to the Jabil strategies and direction

    • Strong financial and analytical ability:

      • P&L

      • Planning

      • Delivery

      • Data science techniques (preferred)

    • Proven record of accomplishment of successful change management accomplishments, implementing and management continuous improvements and cost reduction programs

    • Strong communication skills

  • Prefer to have good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety standards & requirements

  • Prefer to have good understanding of Quality Systems applied to internal manufacturing processes

  • Proficiency in use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD skills required.


  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Industrial, Process or Manufacturing Engineering required

  • Prefer to have more than 3 years of working experience in Manufacturing or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience

  • Experience with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Hive, NoSQL, etc., and Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.) is preferred

  • Understanding of Python, Spark, Scala, R, or Power BI is highly desirable

  • Product sense, cross-discipline collaboration, AB testing, metric definition, data visualization, stakeholder communication.

  • Lean Silver Certificate or Six Sigma Black Belt preferred

Work Location: Job can be performed remotely from Hungary OR Poland OR Ukraine
