JOB SUMMARY

The Principle Test Development Engineer provides leadership simultaneously across several technology platforms of specialization within the Engineering Group.  They are recognized thought leaders that focus on projects requiring advanced levels of multidisciplinary technical expertise and problem solving.  The Principal Engineer is responsible for large scale activities including the discovery and evaluation of new technologies, development of related processes and procedures, equipment development, and the creation of educational materials that establish the baseline knowledge for the technology.  They are strategic thinkers combining business acumen with technical breadth, and provide mentoring to Test Development staff for a variety of disciplines and best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform research and development, and apply multidisciplinary expertise to identify leading edge technology topics
  • Originate and lead research projects aligned with the Engineering Group roadmap and Jabil long term planning
  • Ability to explain complex problems and technical solutions to a diverse audience of business and technical senior leaders
  • Strategize and develop with senior management the future trends in the development and adoption of technology platforms
  • Lead Jabil technology roadmap development effort for multiple key technology areas
  • Provide main technical content for project quotes and proposals by assessing the technical requirements and strategies
  • Evaluate development proposals and designs for technical compliance to customer requirements
  • Develop and implement organizational initiatives aimed at improving technology development performance, tools, and systems
  • Invited to present at seminars and conferences associated with relevant technology topics as a representative of Jabil
  • Contribute to customer meetings in support of Jabil business development as requested
  • Guide and assist Jabil business development in RFQ responses regarding new technologies, equipment, and test strategies
  • Consult with customer and/or design engineering (lead design reviews, FMEAs, etc.) to ensure robust technologies
  • Lead strategic research efforts and initiate large scale project proposals for technology investigation or development
  • Identify and develop innovative solutions for enhancement of capabilities and to address capability gaps
  • Define objectives of DOE, CPK analysis, Gage R&R studies, and other tools for corporate strategic projects
  • Oversee laboratory personnel involved in DOE, testing and/or experimentation work
  • Lead and/or support technology training, transfer of best practices, and integration into Jabil facilities as required
  • Train and mentor technical personnel within and external to the Engineering Group organization
  • Comply with departmental time tracking procedures for all work performed
  • Abide by all procedures within the company security policy
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Typically reports to Management.  Direct supervisor job title(s) typically include: Director Test Development/ Senior Test Development Manager/ Test Development Manager.
  • Job is NOT directly responsible for managing other employees (e.g., hiring/termination and/or pay decisions, performance management).   

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Accomplished in the design and execution of experiments/tests and problem solving for diverse advanced technology topics such as: design, materials, RF, test & assembly, tools & equipment, manufacturing processes, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of several advanced technologies practiced, both in R&D and manufacturing environments.  Long history of hands-on, practical knowledge in several company core and advanced technologies
  • Strong appreciation for and intimate involvement in relevant industry standards and specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently provide innovative solutions for advanced technologies e.g. design materials, RF, test & assembly, tools & equipment, manufacturing processes, etc.
  • Recognized ability to write technical papers, generate presentations, speak, and to effectively represent Engineering Group to other Jabil groups, external customers, and technology peer groups in the industry  
  • Must maintain up-to-date knowledge on the status and breakthroughs in diverse technology platforms as a continuous improvement of Jabil core competency and leadership in technology innovation

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree required in an engineering discipline from a college or university related to a technology field
  • Masters degree in an engineering field from a college or university related to the technology area, preferred
  • 8 to 10 years work related experience required, in a R&D and/or technology development environment
  • Extensive experience leading cross-businesses initiatives to implement new technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train technicians, engineers and co-workers in advanced technology
  • Extensive experience in identifying transformational technology topics and initiating large projects to establish new core competencies
  • Maintain memberships in multiple recognized professional associations
  • Primary contributor to industry white papers due to external recognition as a visionary
