PURPOSE: 

Responsible to work under the direction of the site environmental engineer to support environmental activities, such as storage, movement, disposal of hazardous/non-hazardous waste and minimization and prevention of non-hazardous waste from manufacturing activities.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

2.1      High school degree required.    

KEY SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:SKILL SETS

Good verbal and written communication skills

Good interpersonal skills

Basic math skills 

Safe work practices

COMPUTER SKILLS

Basic personal computer skills (MS Access, Word and EXCEL)

EXPERIENCE

Material handling experience with use of pallet jack, forklift and baler required.

Handling of various hazardous and non-hazardous wastes preferred.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Due to building accessibility, business needs, and hours of operation for certain tasks, the recycling responsibilities are defined by shift.First Shift Responsibilities

Perform data entry using MS Access, Word, and Excel.

Read and understand specifications, procedures and work instructions.

Perform arithmetic calculations involving addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication of whole numbers to ensure correct receipt, issue, and transportation of material.

Maintain all required documentation in a legible and orderly manner.

Work with minimal supervision to complete scheduled assignments.

Maintain positive customer interface.

Manage recyclables throughout the facility, ensuring clean & orderly collection areas and containers.

Work with external contractors and facility department, as needed, to assist in other job assignments.

Manage non-hazardous waste materials, containers, and collection areas.

Collaborate with various departments to prioritize demands in a team environment.

Support the development and implementation of waste minimization programs to achieve J&J environmental goals.

Coordinate with environmental technician to perform waste pickups, weekly inspections and shipments of hazardous waste installations to ensure compliance with EPA’s RCRA regulations.

Perform environmental inspections as required. (Regulated waste, non-regulated waste, chemical, storm water, storage tank, containment, recycling, etc)

Operate company vehicle and Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIV) as necessary.

Manage reuse/auction materials and maintain a neat and orderly staging area.

Work with environmental technician to ensure on-time completion and thorough documentation of equipment & PIV PM’s.

Manage collection and disposal of non-regulated ink waste shipments.

Partner with Quality personnel to manage and dispose of incoming scrap materials and devices.

Manage and document all non-hazardous waste shipments.

Manage labeling material designated for special burial, including witnessing landfill disposal.

Perform other duties as assigned or required         

Environmental – Participate in implementation of the EMS management system including continual improvement; pollution prevention; objectives and targets; and regulatory compliance. Implement and follow all applicable EMS procedures. Adhere to the site’s EHS Code of Conduct.

Second Shift Responsibilities

Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Environmental – Participate in implementation of the EMS management system including continual improvement; pollution prevention; objectives and targets; and regulatory compliance. Implement and follow all applicable EMS procedures. Adhere to the site’s EHS Code of Conduct.

POST HIRE TRAINING PLAN REQUIREMENTS:

Maintain adherence to position training curriculum

RCRA102 certification within the first 6 months of position (First and Second shift only)

Forklift certification

Complete Occupational Health Dept. drug screening

Data collection systems training (First and Second shift onlys)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Long walking, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching.

Heavy lifting with and without use of special equipment (maximum of 35 lbs. without assistance)

Able to move 55 gallon barrels of hazardous waste from accumulation areas to hazardous waste storage area using drum handling equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Office and manufacturing environments
